What is your business mission?
We believe that flowers have the ability to heal, to bring joy and to transfer emotions.
Our mission is to exceed our customer’s expectations, pluck ideas from their head that they didn’t even know existed and to deliver more than they had envisioned. To create beautiful, inspiring works of art with nature.
How did Thrive become a business and when?
I originally began working from home under a different name (From the Heart Flowers) in 2005 and then purchased Thrive Flowers in 2010, gradually merging the two. I started out specialising in Weddings with the forward-thinking idea back then to start a home consulting service, where I was able to visit Brides in their homes with their families and get to know them (their likes/dislikes etc) It soon became a success so I decided to move into a Collingwood studio and purchase the corporate business “Thrive Flowers & Events”
Who is in your team?
Myself, business partner Rosie, two qualified florists, a junior florist, an apprentice, a few creative consultants and a courier.
We also work closely with an Event Planner (Vanessa from VR Events).
We run an internship program with Bloom College and will have 8-10 interns commencing shortly for the second year in a row.

What type of events do you service in your business?
We provide full Wedding services and flowers and styling for Corporate events.
Anything from a simple bouquet or arrangement to a full-blown wedding/event including, not only flowers, but décor, styling/theming and hire.
What has been your favourite floral trend of 2016?
Definitely suspended arrangements! It’s so much fun creating a huge hero piece that seems to float in the air, the logistics can be just as much fun as the flower arranging.
What is your dream venue to work at in Melbourne that you have not yet had the chance to?
Lauren’s Hall, it has so much scope and the space can be adjusted to suit the size of the event. There are also so many beams to create suspended work from!
Having been a bride yourself, What is the best wedding tip you have for brides?
If you’re planning a DIY wedding, make sure you have a Wedding Planner to help you along the way.
There will be plenty of times on the day where you won’t want to be the point of contact!
What is your favourite flower?
Dahlias for their gigantic multipetal heads and gorgeous colour range and Amaranths because it’s unusual and has an amazing shape/form to work with.
Do you also offer hire in your business?
We have a huge range of hire items, anything from glassware to signing tables, from umbrellas to arbours, flower walls to candelabras.
Booking procedures, can you take me through your process of booking in a wedding? Do I come in and see you? Where are you located?
We love to meet with all our brides face to face, sometimes it’s not possible, but if it is, then we invite you to our studio in Collingwood for a private consultation. It generally takes about an hour and we spend time looking at your inspiration, going thorough our flower reference books and getting all of your wish list out of your head an into an itemised quote. We still offer home consultations, however most of our brides now want to be amongst the action so they enjoy coming into the studio; it creates a lot of interest and inspiration, there’s always a lot going on here.
Do you have other suppliers on your books you can recommend to brides?
We definitely have particular suppliers we love to work with, when you’re all in this crazy world of weddings you can become quite tight with like minded business owners!

What’s been the most elaborate wedding you have serviced to date, paint the picture:
We had a last minute request come up right before NYE 2014. The bride’s friend called us 4 weeks before her best friends wedding, saying that the florist had cancelled last minute due to not having enough staff. The wedding was on the 3rd January; they wanted an 8 meter in diameter floral chandelier to hang 8 meters high suspended from the lighting rig as well as a 2 meter flower wall. We managed to get a team together quick smart and pulled it off; 350 garlands of yellow flowers & foliage, a team of 10 to construct it in 4 hours, built a flower wall and decorated it, plus we came back the next morning to bump it all out. Not to mention the 450 guests they invited had a massive food fight! The place was destroyed, but apparently that’s the norm when an Albanian marries an African – they had personally invited me at the last minute and I wished I had of gone along – it would have been a blast!
